Electrical steel grades for motors and transformers

Select the family that matches your flux path, then review grade, thickness, core loss and coating. Grades outside this list can be sourced on request.

Non-Oriented

Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

Non-oriented electrical steel has uniform magnetic properties in every direction of the sheet, which suits rotating equipment where flux paths turn through the lamination. Grades are selected by core loss and induction according to the efficiency class and operating frequency of the machine.

Typical applications

  • AC and DC motors
  • Fans, pumps and compressors
  • Automotive and EV traction motors
  • Small transformers and reactors
  • Home appliance motors
50W800 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 50W800

50W800 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

A general-purpose fully processed grade for small and medium motors, fans and pumps where economical core loss is the main requirement.

Thickness 0.50 mmView details
50W600 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 50W600

50W600 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

A lower-loss step up from the standard grade for medium motors and compressors that need better efficiency at the same stack height.

Thickness 0.50 mmView details
50W470 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 50W470

50W470 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

A high-grade non-oriented steel for high-efficiency motors and generators where low loss at higher induction is required.

Thickness 0.50 mmView details
25W230 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 25W230

25W230 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

A thin-gauge, low-loss grade for high-speed and high-frequency machines where eddy current loss has to be kept low.

Thickness 0.25 mmView details
65W600 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 65W600

65W600 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

A 0.65 mm general-purpose grade for medium motors, compressors and pumps where a thicker lamination suits the existing stack and tooling.

Thickness 0.65 mmView details
35W300 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 35W300

35W300 Non-Oriented Electrical Steel

A thinner gauge for high-speed motors and generators, where eddy current loss rises with operating frequency.

Thickness 0.35 mmView details

Grain-Oriented

Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grain-oriented electrical steel is produced with a strongly preferred crystal orientation along the rolling direction, giving low core loss and high permeability in that direction. It is used for wound and stacked cores where the flux path follows the rolling direction.

Typical applications

  • Distribution transformers
  • Power transformers
  • Wound core and stacked core builds
  • Reactors and inductors
  • Instrument transformers
23R075 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 23R075

23R075 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

A thin, high-permeability grain-oriented grade for transformer cores with demanding no-load loss targets.

Thickness 0.23 mmView details
20R070 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 20R070

20R070 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

The thinnest grade in the range, for transformer cores with very demanding no-load loss targets.

Thickness 0.20 mmView details
27Q085 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 27Q085

27Q085 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

A thinner, low-loss grain-oriented grade for power transformer cores and high-performance reactor applications.

Thickness 0.27 mmView details
30Q120 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 30Q120

30Q120 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

A conventional grain-oriented grade for distribution transformers where the loss budget allows a standard grade.

Thickness 0.30 mmView details
27Q100 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 27Q100

27Q100 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

A thin-gauge grade for transformer cores that need lower loss than 0.30 mm material at the same induction level.

Thickness 0.27 mmView details
23Q090 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

Grade 23Q090

23Q090 Grain-Oriented Electrical Steel

The thinnest grade in the range, for large power transformer cores where eddy current loss dominates the loss budget.

Thickness 0.23 mmView details
